July News – 2022

We cannot believe it’s JULY – hope your golfing season is treating you well!

See below this month’s news from our Club President, Vice-President, Handicap Coordinator, and
Captains of the 9-hole and 18-hole leagues:

From the President – Bonnie Ottenbreit

Hello everyone, thanks again for being part of our league I hope you are all enjoying the sunshine. The executive team would like to acknowledge your fundraising efforts – congrats for being great community-minded individuals. Every penny counts!

Despite recent stormy weather, the greens are sure looking nice. We have heard that the golf course has been re-rated by Golf Saskatchewan, when we have further details on those changes, we will definitely share that news with you.

As always, do not hesitate to bring ideas/suggestions to me or any board member. We are here to serve the membership in whatever way we can. Please continue to enjoy your summer wherever golf may take you!

From the Vice-President – Karen Tyacke

Hey everyone!! The MAP grant has been approved. Woo Hoo!!! So, I now move on to thinking about the Trilogy. I will put up a sign-up sheet in the pro shop for members to sign up after the mixed tourney is done and the deadline for signing up will be August 3rd. The big day is August 10th and Linda Sinclair has offered to host us after at her beautiful home.

We will do the same thing as last year bring some meat for the BBQ if you want and some drinks.

Last year some wonderful peeps donated some salad and treats for after, so let me know if you want to do that. Please bring a prize if you want to pick a prize (ex. birdie juice or golf balls, keep it simple in the price range of $12-$15). We will play 3 holes scramble, 3 holes alternate shot, and 3-dice game. Look forward to seeing you all out that day. Thanks!

From the Handicap Coordinator – Tressa Bosley

Handicap vs. Handicap Index – What is the difference?

You will often hear the terms “handicap” and “handicap index” when talking about golf.

The problem is a lot of golfers use those terms interchangeably, but they are actually technically different.

The main difference between the two is that a “handicap” is a generic term used by golfers to refer to their average score in relation to par. Whereas the “handicap index” is an official rating of a golfer’s handicap, calculated by an official handicap system. If you are planning to golf in any tournaments, your “handicap” is mostly unofficial and would not be accepted to get into the tournament and you will instead need to provide the course with your “handicap index”. This allows the tournament you are playing in to determine your ability at that particular course, and thereby level the playing field amongst the field of golfers.

 Message from your captains!

June was a great month for golf.

We had 2 Butler Putting, Barber/Hammond competitions.

Had a fun game of High/Low, crazy Hat Day and of course our annual Red & White Day. My Girls Rock! 50/50’s were won by Sandy Rootman, Kim Graff twice, Janet Barber & Linda Sinclair!

We are looking forward to great weather in July for our Mixed Tournament, regular competition day, Cancer Fundraiser & Vegas Day.

See you all on the course.

 18 Hold Ladies Golf

We have had some great weather for golf and our course is being improved on a daily basis. I am pleased to say that the course has been re-rated, info will be shared as soon as we receive it. As the temperature is more like summer, we are starting earlier, 8:10 on July 11th.

Thanks everyone, it was great to see all the RED & WHITE as we played on the 27th. We are looking forward to a fun time at our Mixed Tournament on July 6th. Competitions will continue with notification in your emails with the draw times.

Golf For The Cure Fundraiser is July 18th. We will be wearing PINK, using a pink ball if possible and counting our Par Points. Donation forms will be available and for $20 or more, receipts will be issued. Vacation time is fun and busy for everyone as well as our course. Please let me know, if possible, on Thursday if you are available to play. See you on the links!
